Viva Care’s Health Advisory Board works with management to establish overall strategic direction for Viva Care and ensures appropriate consultation in the establishment of new initiatives that will impact the care provided to patients.

Dr. Clasina Fourie

Board Chair

Dr. Fourie is a Family Physician at Viva Care Abbotsford clinic since October 2015. She is originally from and studied in South Africa where she earned her medical degree (Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery) from the University Of The Free State. She completed her residency training at Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex, South Africa, in 2005. After obtaining a Diploma in HIV Management from the College of Medicine RSA, she was appointed as Senior Medical Officer and supervisor for the HIV Unit and Department of Internal Medicine, Tshepong Hospital, a position she held till the end of 2007.

Dr. Fourie completed the GPSC Management and Leadership Program in 2011 and has filled multiple leadership roles including: Board member of the Abbotsford Division of Family Practice (2010 – 2013), Hospital Care Physician Program leader (2011-2013) and Vice President for Abbotsford Regional Hospital Medical Association (2013-2015).

Dr. Andy Jassal

Board Member

Dr. Andy Jassal has been part of the Viva Care family since 2012 when he began his medical practice at the Surrey – Newton clinic. Dr. Jassal completed his medical degree in Sydney Australia, then returned to Vancouver to complete his residency at St. Paul’s Hospital. He spent two years in Hope doing full service family practice including emergency and hospital medicine, before joining the Viva Care team.

He enjoys spending his non-office time with his young family and cheering for his favorite sporting teams, the Canucks, Whitecaps, Lions and Seahawks.

Dr. Arthur Vasquez

Board Member

Dr. Vasquez has been in clinical practice in Burnaby since 1992, joining the Viva Care team in 2012. After a few years of family practice, he took a several year hiatus to work as a Renal Transplant Clinical Associate and then as a Medical Director for several Pharmaceutical companies in Canada and USA, returning to Family Practice in 2010. He is also the Medical Director for Manna Research Vancouver.

He enjoys spending time with his family as well as taking advantage of all the outdoor activities the Lower Mainland has to offer, that is when not training for his next marathon.
